Visit Whale Statue, USS Juneau Memorial, We also recommend running across the Douglas Bridge. There’s a pedestrian path protected from cars, and there are great views to Douglas Island on the 0.5 mile bridge.
Add-Ons: North of the Yacht Club, it’s possible to run along Egan Dr. (Highway 7). There are wide open views of the water and mountains along this road. Note that this is a highway with two lanes for cars in each direction, but there is a wide shoulder.
Hike
Mount Roberts Trail (2 miles, 1.5 hrs. to the Mountain House; 4.5 miles, 4 hrs. to the summit; moderate) Another popular hike from a different trailhead on Basin Road, Mount Roberts Trail features a series of switchbacks up through boreal forest, providing increasingly good views and wildlife spotting. At 1,760 feet, hikers reach the tree line and the Mount Roberts Mountain House, upper station for the Goldbelt Mount Roberts Tramway. Spend $20 there and ride the tram back down for free with your receipt! Or continue to the top — it’s actually a smoother gradient (and usually less muddy) than the first section. Looking for a shortcut to the ridge? You can also ride the tram up to the Mountain House and start hiking from there.

Run - has to be fast one
Icy Strait Point, Alaska, offers a stunning coastal run or walk along a scenic, approximately 1.5-mile paved trail connecting the cruise dock to the Tlingit town of Hoonah. The route features coastal views, potential whale sightings, and bald eagles, often through dense, lush forests.
Then to Carnival Tour....
Whale Watching: Search for Alaska’s largest mammals on this combination tour. Your half-day adventure takes you to explore the rich waters of Point Adolphus, home to whales, sea lions, seals, and porpoises. Enjoy warm, comfortable seating inside or savor the spectacular views from outside viewing decks. Your whale watching trip will depart directly from Icy Strait Point, allowing for the maximum amount of water time available.
Bear Search: Known to have one of the largest populations of coastal brown bear in the world, the second half of your adventure continues with a trip into the wilderness of Chichagof Island. Upon arriving to the Spasski River Valley, your experienced guide will lead you over gravel and boardwalk pathways through dense forest and muskeg marsh to several viewing platforms above the Spasski River. Learn about the coastal brown bear, their habitats and why this area is ideal for their year-round foraging. Besides coastal brown bears, there is a chance to view other wildlife such as Sitka-black tailed deer, river otters, pine martens and bald eagles.
